Old Town Printing
Offset Printing Services
About half our reproduction is done on our three offset printing presses. We were one of the first printing firms in the New River Valley to make printing plates using the Computer To Plate system. All of our printing plates are made digitally directly from our computer files - there are no second generation photos or scans or copies of your original materials.
Offset printing is ideal for larger jobs (usually over 500 copies), especially jobs requiring color. Offset printing is also used for paper stocks which are not suitable for our digital printing machines such as envelopes, extremely heavy paper stocks, and odd sized stocks.
As the number of colors printed increases, so does the number of printing plates and the "startup cost" See our explanation of spot color and process color printing and the use of screens and tints .
At Old Town Printing, we always try to select the best method to reproduce your job. The factors which help us decide which method to use are: length of run (how many copies do you need), timeliness (how fast do you need the job), quality restraints (some jobs reproduce better on our digital machines, some turn out better on the presses), and what is the format of the original to be reproduced (i.e. a preprinted sheet of paper, a computer designed document created for offset printing, a computer generated document not created appropriately of offset printing).
